Eastside Elementary had their nine weeks of art cut a bit short due to weather and NTI days. However, that didn’t stop them from creating some amazing clay and foil pieces with a dragon theme. Grades 3, 4, and 5 experienced art through the “eyes of dragons” in a variety of ways. Students practiced drawing and designing their own dragon eyes with pastels, focusing on blending techniques and color theory. Once designed, they had a choice of turning that piece into a clay form, or embossing metal to create an egg for their dragon eye to “hatch” from. Sharing the end results on social media platforms and through their Artsonia galleries caused quite a stir in the community, with questions about the process, the inspiration, and rave reviews on the skills and creativity of the students.
