I’m thrilled to announce that a continued partnership is making a “metallic” impact in the art room at Foley Middle School! For the second time, Sims Alumisource: Aluminum Recycling Company is sponsoring our 8th grade Metal Repoussé Mask project. With a donation of $677.17, Sims Alumisource is directly funding the specialized materials required for the sculpture unit. In an era where the cost of art supplies continues to rise, these funds are more than just a donation – they are a lifeline for our curriculum. The metal repoussé masks are a highlight for my students, a project they see on display in the hallway during their 6th and 7th grade years and look forward to it. This traditional technique involves shaping the aluminum tooling foil by embossing the metal to create a design in low relief. Representatives from Sims Alumisource visited the school to observe the process of creating the masks. Several 8th grade students provided demonstrations and taught the lesson to the adults. They were amazed by the process and praised the students for their talents and ability to guide them through the process. My students and I are grateful to everyone at Sims Alumisource for supporting young artists in education. Their continued commitment to Foley Middle School ensures our students continue to have the tools they need to shine.
