On December 9, 2025, the vibrant colors of featured art from selected 4th and 5th grade Eubank and Nancy artists extended beyond the classroom and into the heart of the Pulaski County/Somerset community at the annual Merry and Bright – A Night with the Arts, Christmas community event. This collaborative celebration which integrated visual arts with band, choir, and drama performances from across the county and city districts, provided a platform for our young artists to showcase skill, growth, and creative vision.
The bold leaves of 4th and 5th graders were created with chalk pastels outlined in black oil pastel with intentional contrasting of warm and cool colors. A sense of space and movement resulted from leaf size, direction and shape. Fourth grade dragon eyes utilized black alcohol based markers and watercolors allowing students to experiment with mixing, blending, and basic watercolor techniques resulting in a wide array of colorful, impactful eyes. Fifth grade dragon eyes dove into oil pastels utilizing layering, blending, and contrast with remarkable results.
The visual art display, which included the art work from several other local schools, brightened the hallways of the Rural Development Center in Somerset, Kentucky and later moved to the main library branch in downtown Somerset until early January.
By exhibiting their work alongside peers from local schools, our students not only gained exposure and positive feedback but also demonstrated the power of art to foster connection and brighten an entire community.
