Every fall, choirs from across the state prepare for All-State Auditions. The Kentucky Music Educator’s Association offers this opportunity to students in 5-12 grade annually. Elementary and Junior High students submit recordings of themselves singing selected choral music to be judged. High School students prepare a choral piece to perform and even sight read an 8 measure melody individually for judges. The highest scoring students that make the cut get invited to practice and perform in Louisville in February. Approximately 1200 students perform at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts in 6 choirs with performances staggered over two days.
Pulaski County High School has had 10-25 students selected to be in the KMEA All-State Choirs each year over the past decade. This year, they had14 High School and 2 Junior High students make it into these competitive choirs. They attribute much of their success to the Pulaski County School District’s dedication to providing all of their schools with certified music teachers and the successful elementary and middle school choir programs that feed into Pulaski County High School’s program.
